The World Christian Pledge

The New Year is often a time to make resolutions. Why not resolve this year to be part of the mission of God? Jesus Christ is the answer to the great problems of life in this world; that’s the essential truth underlying Good News. You can be part of the answer in the most impactful way. The World Christian Pledge is a way of making a commitment to being part of bringing God’s answer to people who desperately need it.

But New Year’s resolutions are notorious for being broken. Witness the “January Effect” at the gym. You’ll see many more people there in January than in May. That’s why the World Christian Pledge begins and ends with the gospel. As Tim Keller often put it, Jesus lived the life we should have lived and died the death we should have died so that we might be fully forgiven and enjoy abundant eternal life.

I cordially invite you to consider taking the World Christian Pledge. It’s a commitment to do the things Jesus commanded and taught, including engaging in carrying out the Great Commission, something that is sometimes over looked.

The World Christian Pledge
By God’s grace and for his glory, I resolve:

1. to believe that God so loves me that he gave only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to die for my sins and rise again from the dead that I might receive forgiveness of all my sins and eternal life as gifts by faith.

2. to confess, turn from and put to death anything in my life I know to be wrong, knowing Christ has freed me from the power and the penalty of sin through the cross.

3. to seek and receive the promised fullness of the Holy Spirit to know God better and to have a fruitful life and ministry. By faith I receive the fruit, the gifts and the power of the Spirit along with Christ’s authority over the powers of darkness.

4. to receive something of God’s healing power and grace inwardly, outwardly and in relation to others.

5. to live and serve as part of the Body of Christ through active membership in a local church, putting love for Christ above all secondary differences. I resolve to celebrate God’s covenant love for me through communion and to affirm my covenant love for him through baptism.

6. to love and worship God passionately and exclusively in response to his great love for me and to make a firm decision to deny myself and take up the cross daily to follow Christ as his disciple.

7. to love my brothers and sisters in Christ as he has loved us and given himself for us.

8. to serve Christ through regular worship, fellowship, prayer, Bible study and witnessing for him in word and action.

9. Having received eternal life, I resolve to share the good news with others from all nations through evangelism, discipleship and starting new churches, as God enables, using my life and my wealth according to God’s call, passing these traditions of faith and obedience on to others.

10. Above all, to seek to do everything for the glory of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, knowing that when I fall short, Jesus Christ’s perfect life, atoning death and triumphant resurrection ever secure my right standing before the Father.
