Scriptural References for the Ten
Steps
1. Faith in Christ and the Gospel
“For what I received I passed
on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for
our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried,
that he was raised on the third day according to the
Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3,4).
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one
and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”
(Romans 5:8).
“This is how God showed his love among us: He
sent his one and only Son into the world that we might
live through him. This is love: not that we loved God,
but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning
sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:9-10).
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through
faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the
gift of God– not by works, so that no one can
boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
“But now a righteousness from God, apart from
law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets
testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith
in Jesus Christ to all who believe.” (Romans 3:21-22).
“I have come that they may have life, and have
it to the full” (John 10:10b).
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life,
but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's
wrath remains on him” (John 3:36).
2. Repentanceof Sins
“If we claim to be without sin,
we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”
(1 John 1:8-9).
“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized,
every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38).
“For if you live according to the sinful nature,
you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death
the misdeeds of the body, you will live” (Romans
8:13).
“For we know that our old self was crucified with
him so that the body of sin might be done away with,
that we should no longer be slaves to sin– because
anyone who has died has been freed from sin” (Romans
6:6-7).
“I write to you, dear children, because your sins
have been forgiven on account of his name” (1
John 2:12).
3. Being Filled with the Holy Spirit
“Do not get drunk on wine, which
leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit”
(Ephesians 5:18).
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me
with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares
the LORD” (Jeremiah 29:13-14).
“If you then, though you are evil, know how to
give good gifts to your children, how much more will
your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those
who ask him!” (Luke 11:13).
“And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”
(Acts 2:38).
“This salvation, which was first announced by
the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various
miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according
to his will” (Acts 2:3-5).
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit
comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the
earth” (Acts 1:8).
“…he too shared in their humanity so that
by his death he might destroy him who holds the power
of death–that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14).
“And having disarmed the powers and authorities,
he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over
them by the cross” (Colossians 2:15).
“…he sent them out two by two and gave them
authority over evil spirits” (Mark 6:7).
4. Healing
“By his wounds we are healed”
(Isaiah 53:5).
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
(2 Corinthians 5:17).
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you”
(John 14:27).
5. Membership inChrist’s Body
“For we are members of his body”
(Ephesians 5:30).
“This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance
of me” (Luke 22:19).
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in
the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your
sins” (Acts 2:38)
6. Devotion to God
“Love the Lord your God with
all your heart and with all your soul and with all your
strength” (Deuteronomy 6:5).
“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross and follow me” (Matthew
16:24).
“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father
and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and
sisters–yes, even his own life–he cannot
be my disciple” ( Luke 14:26).
“…any of you who does not give up everything
he has cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:33).
7. Love
“‘Love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul and with
all your strength and with all your mind’; and,
‘Love your neighbor as yourself’”
(Luke 10:27).
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As
I have loved you, so you must love one another”
(John 13:34).
“God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God,
and God in him” (1 John 4:16).
8. Means of Grace
“Let us not give up meeting together,
as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage
one another–and all the more as you see the Day
approaching” ( Hebrews 10:25).
“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard,
so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our
fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus
Christ” (1 John 1:3).
“Pray continually” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
“Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading
of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching” (1
Timothy 4:13).
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful
for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”
(2 Timothy 3:16).
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit
comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the
earth” (Acts 1:8).
9. Obedience to the Great Commission
“All authority in heaven and
on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded
you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end
of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20).
“Go into all the world and preach the good news
to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will
be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned”
(Mark 16:15,16).
Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father
has sent me, I am sending you” (John 20:21).
10. Glorifying God
“So whether you eat or drink
or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God”
(1 Corinthians 10:31).
