Follow Up*
When someone first comes to know the
Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, he or she, is
spiritually speaking, a newborn baby. As with every
baby, he or she needs certain basic things to grow into
a mature adult. These things are received through the
"means of grace," among which are:
1. Prayer
As you embark upon a new relationship
with God, prayer is your primary means of communicating
with him. As time goes on, it will become more a sheer
delight than a spiritual discipline.
2. God’s Word
As you speak to God in prayer, he speaks
to you primarily by his word. Reading the Bible, participating
in Bible studies and listening to the word proclaimed
are all ways of hearing the voice of God. Listen to
him daily. Many followers of Christ set aside time every
morning to worship, pray and study the Bible.
3. Fellowship
Dr. Richard Halverson, the late Chaplain
of the Senate, once said, "There are two things
you can’t do alone: get married or be a Christian."
To become a Christian means to become a part of Christ’s
Body, the Church. Become an active member of a spiritually
vibrant church.
4. Worship
God wants men and women who will worship
him in spirit and truth, and the Church is by nature
a worshipping community. Know the joy of celebrating
God’s grace and goodness weekly in corporate worship
and daily in private or family worship.
5. Witness
Christ has entrusted a sacred mission
to his Church: to bring the good news of his kingdom
to all nations. Bear witness to the truth of the gospel
in word and deed, and invite others to receive the gift
of eternal life. Participate in God’s great redemptive
plan through supporting and participating in evangelism,
discipleship and church planting to bring the good news
of his kingdom to the ends of the earth.
As you seek him and serve him, may
God bless you and yours.
